But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you… Acts 1:8 (NIV)
I said, “STOP! You need to send me the information…I believe I have to be there!”
Just five months earlier, a dear friend had returned from Bishop TD Jakes’ Woman Thou Art Loosed Conference and she was all fired up about the ministry of Dr. Jasmin “Jazz” Sculark. And something within me leaped…I knew I had to get to her conference, I’ve Got the Power 2015. I was not going to miss this experience. I was not going to miss what He had in store for me.
I’ve Got the Power was brand new, and it was happening almost 3000 miles away from where I live in the Seattle Washington area. Still…I knew I had to be there.
I had never even heard of this Dr. Jazz person, but still…I knew I had to be there.
Jericho City of Praise, I had not heard of either, but still…I knew I had to be there.
Unfamiliarity was irrelevant, as I started to feel as though I was divinely connected to Dr. Jazz’ ministry right from the onset. Those who know me well know I am very intentional about what I write, especially on social media. I am not one to push and promote something that I do not know much about, and this would be the Inaugural I’ve Got the Power Conference for Dr. Jazz & Jericho’s Women of Power. And though it was a first, there was something so excitingly anointed about the experience that I was about to have. I just could not stop talking about it.
As the time led up to the conference, I began to express my excitement via social media. Before long, I started to connect with others (even members of Jericho City of Praise)…and we began to rejoice by way of a Twitter countdown. The excitement built, and before I knew it, it was confirmed…I am very much a part of this ministry.
And Then There Were 500+
Over 500 women came together for I’ve Got the Power 2015. WOW! Clearly God’s stamp of approval was on this meeting. His glory lingered in every workshop room I entered and hovered over the main sanctuary for every single main session. Hmmm…This experience reminded me of a familiar passage in the Bible:
On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place. Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Acts 2:1-2
Yes…That is exactly what happened…every time we came together. There was such freedom in praise. Together…
The women sang and shout.
The women wept and wailed.
The women waved their hands in praise.
There were even some who got in a little calisthenics by taking a lap around the sanctuary. I took my friend by the hand and dragged her out of the pew. We were not going to miss getting our exercise (or our BREAKTHROUGH) that day…we, too, took a lap.
A powerful praise session had broken out indeed. This became the norm by the end of the conference.
He Found Me In the Crowd
Although I was quite satisfied with just being among all those amazing women, God met me…right where I was and spoke directly to my heart. On the second night of the conference, out of all those women in the building, Dr. Jazz laid hands on only two women.
I was one of the two.
That night she spoke just a few words into my life. It was enough to take me over the top…and then to the floor! I was overwhelmed with gratitude that God chose me to give a direct word and contact to.
For many are called, but few are chosen. Matthew 22:14 (KJV)
The last and final day of the conference, I had a migraine coming on. But I could not chance missing anything just to stop by Rite-Aid. Yep…pressing my way was a good call. The morning session was as dynamic as expected. Headache and all, I was in agreement with the morning speaker, Bishop Millicent Hunter who reminded us, “When it comes to PRAISE…TURN DOWN FOR WHAT?!”
When Dr. Jazz mounted the platform–with such authority–for the conclusion of the whole matter, it was evident that all the women in the room got it!
Ohhhh…I know I got it! Yes…I’ve Got the Power!
As she began to close her message, which she so eloquently spoke about the ten lepers that Jesus healed in the Book of Luke. She honed in on the “one” that came back to express His gratitude to Jesus. Jesus inquired about the others. But to the “one” that came back, He declared he was not just cleansed, but also made whole..
During the altar call, as I stood there at the base of the pulpit crying out and praising God with every part of my being…here comes Dr. Jazz AGAIN, looking me dead in the eyeballs as she walked across the stage toward me. God used her this time to confirm, impart, and to release me into my destiny. She ended by saying, “You were not just cleansed…you are now WHOLE!” And with a light touch and a gentle blow, I was again on the floor, this time going through a spiritual metamorphosis. Little I remembered. Those who accompanied me at the conference told me what it looked like from their view. I just knew when I left that conference…and I shall continue to declare…
I’VE GOT THE POWER!!!
Photo Credit: I call the opening photo “A God kind of selfie.” At 2 AM the morning after the conference, I discovered this picture on my phone. No one was riding with me when I left the Jericho campus. God captured this moment Himself. By accident…I think not!
This view revealed a few things to me:
- A divine shift happened during the conference.
- God’s Glory overshadows Jericho City of Praise.
- God put His stamp of approval on I’ve Got The Power 2015.
I remained in the area two more days…the sky did not look like that from the time I discovered the photo up until I boarded the plane to go home.
Lord, Help me to confidently walk in the POWER that you have given me. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
