Who’s this chic?
That might have been my first thought. C’mon…You know how us girls can be sometimes!
Last year, when Lysa TerKeurst mounted the stage at my home church, Champions Centre in Tacoma, WA, I had never even heard of her or Proverbs 31 Ministries.
And I just love the responses I get when I mention that to those who have been following her ministry since the Proverbs 31 Homemaker era: “WHAT?!?!?! I have been following for years!!!” But more than anything, I love the stories behind how God divinely orchestrated each connection…all for the purpose of each of us drawing closer to Him as we pursue our calling to speak and/or write.
For me, I was drawn to Lysa as she shared with such transparency about her life and that of her family. You see, whenever I have to speak anywhere, my children wonder who would be on the topic chopping block each time. But they never seemed to mind that much since it was free publicity.
It was months later that I heard Lysa’s name again, in conversation, and thought I should seek out her ministry. During that search I stumbled upon a link for She Speaks 2014, which had recently happened. BUMMER. But I was instantly intrigued. I was looking for whether there would be another conference like this one and when. I sent an email through the site and began to dialogue with someone from the ministry, who informed me how to sign up to receive notifications about when the information for next year would be released.
And I just knew I had to GO.
The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Psalm 37:23 (NLT)
At the time, I did not know of anyone who had attended before or anyone that would be willing to make that type of investment to come along with me.
I just knew I had to get to She Speaks!
Praying at Proverbs 31 Ministries Headquarters
I landed, picked up my rental car, and headed to the Proverbs 31 Ministries headquarters, humbly honored that I was even invited to pray through this building. As I listened to the history of how they laced the building with Scriptures on its very foundation and within the beams of every wall, I was deeply moved within.
A wave of God’s presence came over me before we even began to pray. I made my way to the restroom in hopes to regain my composure. But after hogging it for about ten minutes, it was apparent to me that this lingering presence is permanently stationed. So I just went out to pray as the Lord would lead.
I personally spent a little over an hour in this building. And much to my surprise, I wept all throughout that time, and could not even form words in English…rather I could only pray in the Spirit.
…For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. Romans 8:26 (NLT)
Clearly the hand of God is all over this ministry, such that His Spirit takes up residence in the headquarters.
Now this experience was enough for me…but I am so grateful that God takes great pleasure in going above and beyond for His children.
Oh yes…I did experience “exceeding abundantly above all I could ever ask or think!”
It Continued at Pre-Conference Worship and Kept Going and Going…
For me, the remainder of the weekend took me over the top. The worship…ohhhhhh the times of worship…were so very sweet. Most times I felt like it was just God and me in the room.
There was such an atmosphere of freedom in the room.
There was a sense of bonding and unity in the room.
There was the sweet aroma of the Holy Spirit in the room.
And boy do I feel privileged that God chose me to be there and experience Him in that way.
Now I have always had a sneaking suspicion that I am God’s favorite. But even aside from all those breath-taking Spirit-infused moments, God proved to me that I am…as I am pretty sure He chose that YELLOW color scheme just for ME!!!
Side note: This is my blog, and I get to tell the story how I want to! Ha!
On a more serious note…God is no respecter of persons, and He favors each and every one of us!
As I close, here are just a few of my takeaways from She Speaks 2015:
- I must go back again and again and again!
- Truly God has sanctioned this event and Proverbs 31 Ministries.
- That I am now part of the Proverbs 31 Ministries family…for real!
- That I am called to serve and to sow into this great work.
- That God is not through with me yet…the best is yet to come!
And if I had to sum up my experience at She Speaks 2015 in just a few words…
HE. WRECKED. MY. WORLD. Best head-on collision EVER!
Lord, May I never get used to Your tangible presence. Feel free to RUN INTO ME…ANYTIME! In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
