What God Has for Me…It is for Me 41

So don’t be anxious about tomorrow. God will take care of your tomorrow too. Live one day at a time. Matthew 6:34 (TLB)

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6 (NIV)

As I followed the realtor up the steps in awe of what I was seeing, I audibly uttered the words, “Oh God, I wanna keep it…I want this house to be mine!”

You see, it was a rental property. The owners lived in it for less than six months before they received military orders to transfer overseas. And as for me…Just a day or so earlier I was given notice that I was approved for an honorable medical discharge and would be exited from the Army in two weeks. Yikes! That is not a lot of time to find a decent place for a family of five.

To top it off, my bubble was busted after hearing the realtor’s emphatic reply to my aforementioned declaration. He said, “The owners DO NOT want to sell this house!”

With no option to buy, we were excited about renting such a beautiful home anyway.

A few short months later, we were in for a shock after returning from a trip. There was a notice attached to the house, which stated it was going into foreclosure. Oh my!

This was our big break…surely they will sell it to us now. NOT!

Well, they did want to sell it, but wanted to profit from the sale at our expense. We felt led not to purchase it at the price they were askingl, even though we had gotten approved for much more at the time. We trusted God.

The house went up for auction. And talk about heightened anxiety when God told me not to go. Just be still.

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10

The short of this part of the story is, I was able to buy the house…and for almost $50,000 less than the owners’ asking price.

But the story does not end there.

After God blessed us with the house, the enemy came in like a flood indeed. Seven months later, I was separated from my husband for over two years. He returned and three years later, we were separated again…this time divorce followed. I was now single again, with three children, and was a full time student with no job. So not only was keeping my home in jeopardy…Uncertainty surrounded everything concerning my finances. But God!

Naturally I was terrified. But spiritually I was secure. I remember standing in the middle of the floor one day and literally screaming out loud like a mad woman,

My current set of circumstances presented the very real possibility of me losing all that we had acquired. But I was not willing to let anything go without a fight. I had to prepare myself to battle through my agony and despair.

Here’s the deal…Storms will come. And the cares of life will swoop in often, threatening to take us out. But we have this hope and must know that God knows how to and will always provide EVERYTHING we need. We have a very present Help in our times of trouble. We really do not have to worry about anything, but rather rest assured that His plan, purpose, and will concerning us will be carried out…in every situation.

In times of distress, we are to:

  1.    Be Still! (Psalm 46:10)
  2.    Cry out to Him! (Psalm 55:17)
  3.    Wait it Out! (Isaiah 40:31)

Easier said than done, right? I concur! It is a challenge to stay grounded in the midst of trials and tribulations. Nonetheless, the reward for doing so will always prove to be a blessing that will always outweigh anything you could ever endure.

How my story ends continues:

  1.    That beautiful home…that I just had to have…is still mine!
  2.    I never had to pay a late mortgage. God has always provided!
  3.    I paid off my vehicle without ever making a late payment.
  4.    God provided for every utility bill (even though sometimes I forgot and paid late).
  5.    I could go on for days about what God did.

I will leave you with this tidbit of encouragement…The Word of God assures us that He is not a respecter of persons. So what He has done for me; surely He can and will do for you.

And when God wants to bless you…nobody get to weigh in on it…not the devil or even a realtor.

So declare today…What God has for me…It is for me!

Lord, help me to await the manifestation of your promises…even in times of distress. In Jesus’ Name. Amen

Yolanda, I know it’s not easy to wait, But when God says Be still, it’s because He is working in your favor. What a great story you are telling here. A woman who fears the Lord, a woman who believes and knows how to wait in Him. That’s you! Thanks for sharing the testimony about how God worked in your favor because you were obedient to Him. He is faithful!!!!!! I know I have to be still too in this season, but I trust Him and He will do, just like He promised. And He does not lie!!!!!! Thanks for this powerful words of encouragement for me.

Love this story, Yolanda – well, not the sad parts, but the victory that is yours (and mine) in Jesus. Glad the house is still yours and all the other good stuff too!

Thank you for sharing some of what God has done in your life. You are such an encouragement to me. I am a single parent/grandparent who has custody of two of my grandsons. They both have problems because the mother used drugs while she was pregnant. The youngest one has autism and some days I feel so overwhelmed I dont know if I can go on. But I can read what you have shared and it always helps me.I want to say thank you and God bless you. You show me there is always hope with God!

I love your words and your steadfast faith! It is true, “What God has for me, it is for me.” God has a plan and a purpose for all of us, even though the outline of it can appear more than murky at times. We can trust in a God that is good! Thank you again for welcoming me so warmly! Blessings abundant today!

“We have a very present Help in our times of trouble. We really do not have to worry about anything, but rather rest assured that His plan, purpose, and will concerning us will be carried out…in every situation.” Beautiful words Yolanda and thank you for sharing your heart and God’s faithfulness through the storms of your life. You are such a blessing! 🙂

Yolanda, I LOVE this story! I’m so sorry that you had to go through all that heartache, but AMEN for God’s faithfulness and goodness! I too experienced divorce (and happily, remarriage to a wonderful, gentle, Christian man who seems to love me so much more than I often think I deserve!), but we also ended up over our heads financially and had to sell our home…it sat on the market for almost 2 years…2 botched deals, 1 lawsuit threat…and finally sold for much less than we’d even paid! BUT GOD…provided an AMAZING home…we thought we’d end up with a shack, which was all we saw in our price range…and God provided us with a small completely renovated bungalow with a huge yard which borders on a farm. He really is truly amazing…but why are we always surprised at that???? Loved this post. Thanks for sharing.

Yolanda, your post reminded me of a verse I read from Psalm 145 this past week, “The Lord always keeps his promises; he is gracious in all he does.” (verse 13, NLT) May He continue to keep you & bless you. Glad to have been neighbors at Sunday Stillness!

Amen Yolanda, God is not a respecter of persons, if He did it for you, He can do it for me! What an awesome testimony, about how great, loving and AWESOME our God is, when we wait on Him! Thanks for sharing such a strong word of encouragement, I receive and believe!

Hi, Yolanda! I’m stopping by from Grace and Truth this week. 🙂 We received our house in a similar manner, after a year of waiting for it. Sometimes I think we are guilty of expecting too little of God. Not that He wants us to ask for things just to be greedy, but I think I forget that it’s also okay to ask Him for things I want, not just things I need. And He knows best whether to give those to me or not. Thanks for sharing with us! 🙂
